MAZDA SCORES A HAT-TRICK IN THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS
December 3 2008
Mazda has scored a major hat-trick by winning three key passenger car segments in the 2008 People’s Choice Awards, announced by Carsales.com.au, Australia’s number one automotive website.
For an impressive sixth consecutive year, the perennially popular Mazda6 won the Medium Car award, while the top-selling Mazda3 took out the Small Car award for the fifth year in a row. And this year, Mazda also scooped the Light Car category with the funky and zippy Mazda2.
Only one mainstream passenger car category escaped Mazda’s grasp – the Large Car award – a segment in which Mazda does not compete.
Mazda Australia Managing Director Doug Dickson was delighted to receive the award on behalf of Australia’s best-selling import car brand.
“To win not one but three important passenger car categories is affirmation that Mazda’s Stylish, Insightful and Spirited cars are on the shopping lists of serious car buyers, and that they meet the needs and the desires of Australian new car buyers.”
Carsales CEO Greg Roebuck said Mazda’s superiority in the mainstream passenger car categories stems from the Japanese brand’s strong combination of desirability and affordability.
“The Australian car buying public have voted emphatically in favour of Mazda’s models in three key market segments. With many consumers choosing to downsize, Mazda’s line-up has clearly struck a chord.
“These awards show the strength of Mazda when it comes to delivering exactly what private buyers are looking for,” Roebuck said. “In fact the Mazda6, for example, is now almost the default choice when a new car purchase is considered in the medium segment”.
“As for the Mazda3, its blend of performance and economy, style and safety resonate strongly with small car shoppers.”
The Mazda3 and Mazda6 have dominated their respective categories for a combined 11 years. The Mazda2’s inaugural win in the Light Car category coincides with its first year on-sale.
“Australian new car shoppers are clearly attracted to the Mazda2’s chic and funky good looks underpinned by zippy, economical performance and high levels of practicality,” said Roebuck.
