FRIZELLE BRINGS GERMAN STYLE TO SOUTHPORT
Frizelle brings German style to Southport
Written by Nick Nichols of the Gold Coast Bulletin
Gold Coast car dealer Brett Frizelle is taking German engineering to a new level at Southport, with a proposed showroom for Audi putting European style and luxury on display inside and out.
The terminal-inspired building, about to take shape on an old used-car lot at 62-72 High St, will be the new home for Audi on the Coast and, at 7400sq m, will be the largest for the luxury marque in Queensland.
James Frizelle’s Automotive Group bought the bulk of the 6900sq m site for $4.15 million in 2003 and has been planning the new showroom complex for the past two years.
The millionaire car dealer held a ground-breaking ceremony yesterday, with the help of rugby league starts both past and present, including several from the Gold Coast Titans.
Mr Brett Frizelle, Audi’s Gold Coast dealer principal, said the new three-level showroom would be an ‘extraordinary brand statement’.
“The impressive facility is built following Audi’s global ‘terminal’ architectural style and is representative of Audi’s outstanding achievements,” he said.
“There’s no doubt our new Audi terminal on the Gold Coast will raise awareness of the Audi brand to a completely new level here.”
Mr Brett Frizelle said Audi was the fastest-growing luxury car brand in Australia and he expected to sell more than 1100 new and used carts from the facility by 2015. Current volume stands about 900 cars.
“We strongly believe this market will support the growth of Audi,” he said. “This new facility is the first step in this important growth process.”
The project, which is being fully funded by the Automotive Group, is scheduled for completion in the third quarter this year.
Spaceframe Building has been contracted to undertake construction of the upmarket project, which has been given a little bit of Gold Coast flavour through some modifications by Southport architect John MacIvor, of Design Imagery.
The base design for the project has been produced by Audi’s master architect, Allmann Sattler Wappner, but Mr MacIvor modified it for the High Street site.
The Audi centre will house main showroom for 25 cars and 40 used cars, a service centre with 23 bays and customer facilities.
Audi’s existing dealership is located on the corner of Marine Parade and Nind Street, Southport.
Mr Frizelle said he planned to retain that site, which has high-rise development potential.
